A once in a lifetime opportunity to own a piece of history has just arrived. On behalf of the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation, Christie’s department of Impressionist & Modern Art in London will host an auction featuring 63 of the world’s most famous works of art. Among those, Pablo Picasso’s Blue Period “Portrait of Angel Fernandez de Soto” (Absinthe Drinker) 1903, and Claude Monet’s “Nympheas” are both expected to sell for almost $60 million. According to Christie’s officials, “this is the most valuable art auction to ever take place in London.” The head of impressionist and modern art at Christie’s, Giovanna Bert, says that there has been a fierce international demand for “the rarest and best art in the world.”
In all, the entire collection of art being auctioned is expected to fetch between $240 and $340 million. Pieces by Klimt, Van Gogh, and Matisse are also being auctioned off. The proceeds will benefit arts, culture and heritage in Britain.
